Deborah received her PhD from UBC in 1982, and established E.S. Cropconsult Ltd. in 1988 to offer IPM and research services to both conventional and organic agriculture in the Fraser Valley. She has been the Director of the Institute for Sustainable Horticulture since 2005, and LEEF Regional Innovation Chair at Kwantlen Polytechnic University since 2009.

Shannon Buckshaw IPM Specialist

Shannon was the cranberry specialist for E.S. Cropconsult from 2004 to 2008. Shannon has a B.Sc in Global Resource Systems from UBC, and is currently working as an agricultural biologist in California.

Marybel Soto IPM Specialist

Marybel was the cranberry specialist for E.S. Cropconsult from 2008-2010 and a field scout for E.S. Cropconsult since 2006. Marybel carried out research on organic controls for cranberry production, sparganothis fruitworm, and a honeybee brood pheromone. Marybel has a B.Sc in Global Resource Systems from UBC and is pursuing graduate studies in ethnobotony.

Lena Syrovy IPM Specialist

Lena was the organic vegetable and seed potato specialist for E.S. Cropconsult from 2004 – 2010. Lena has a B.Sc in Global Resource Systems  from UBC and is planning to pursue a Masters of Science in plant pathology in 2011.

Kristine Ferris Berry IPM Coordinator

Kristine was a member of the ES Cropconsult team from 2009 to 2014. As a Berry IPM Consultant, she supervised a crew of field technicians to monitor blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and currants. She was involved in surveillance trapping and research on Spotted Wing Drosophila for several seasons.Kristine has a B.Sc in Global Resources from UBC and is a professional agrologist with the BCIA.

Sarah Busch Berry IPM Consultant

Sarah specialized in IPM for berry crops, primarily blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. She conducted research on spotted wing drosophila and cherry fruitworm. Sarah has a B.Sc. in Environmental Science with a specialization in Biology from Simon Fraser University.

Renee Prasad Research Coordinator

Renee Prasad is the former Research Manager for E.S. Cropconsult, and is still involved at different levels in much of the research we do today. This can be anything from writing proposals and reports, developing ideas, collecting and analyzing data or spreading manure. Renee loves helping her fellow ESCers develop their skills and gain confidence as researchers. She also does IPM scouting and her own research. She has a broad range of interests in all of the tools in the IPM toolbox, but is partial to carabid and staphylinid beetles and their roles in conservation biological control and as indicators of agroecosystem health. Another one of her passions is analyzing and interpreting all that beautiful pest monitoring data collected over the years. Renee also teaches IPM classes at the University of the Fraser Valley (Chilliwack). Her PhD is in Entomology from Washington State University (Bill Snyder), MPM from Simon Fraser University (Bernie Roitberg) and at UVic, Dr. Ring was the first to teach her about frass, flies and pointmounts.

Carolyn Teasdale Berry IPM Coordinator

Carolyn has a Master of Pest Management (MPM) from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Science in Global Resource Systems (GRS) from the University of British Columbia. Carolyn worked for E.S. Cropconsult starting in 2002. She specializes in pest management for blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry and blackberry crops. Her past research has focused on pheromone trapping of the raspberry crown borer, biological control of the European chafer and area-wide monitoring of new berry pests.

Brock Glover Vegetable IPM Coordinator

Brock has worked with E.S. Cropconsult starting in 2007. He was the vegetable IPM coordinator and also works in conventional potato IPM. Brock has participated in field research focused on evaluating potential organic controls for potato late blight and pesticide screening trials for control of silverscurf in potatoes.
